Antioxidants, fights inflammation and amazing taste, need I say more!
If you’ve been following me for a bit, you’ll know all about my current struggle with balancing my hormones due to some years of very high stress. I worked with an endocrinologist for a while changing lifestyle and dietary habits to heal my body organically.
Of course, as most in the medical profession do, my doctor pushed for me to use hormone replacement creams and birth control pills. I actually stopped using any form of birth control pills a few years ago just to avoid some of the potential side effects (depression, heart attack, stroke), which are less than glamorous.
Anyway, I started looking into different supplements that would be able to teach my body to balance out and decrease any unwanted inflammation. There were a few in my line up, but the one that stands out the most is turmeric. This amazing herb (technically a root), has been used for thousands of years for its medicinal properties and some research even shows it works better than some anti- depressant and pain relief medications!
When I first started taking turmeric, I took it in capsule form with a dosage of 400mg twice daily. It’s been two years now and my turmeric repetoire has definitely expanded. I’ll still take the capsule form, but I now use the spice in my cooking and a golden milk powder which has added ashwaganda, another herb touted for its healing properties.
Considering I love food especially when it has health benefits, I created this super easy smoothie recipe that is not only yummy, but may help decrease inflammation, stress and offer your body some balance.
– 1 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk (I use Sodelicious brand)
– 1 tsp chia seeds (Sunfoods brand)
– 1 tsp Gaia golden milk powder
– 2 mint leaves or 1 drop mint extract
– 1/8 tsp cinnamon
– 2-3 ice cubes
– Add all ingredients in a blender and blend until all ingredients mix together (30 seconds)
